Governance

FAN is a global consortium coordinated by the London-based Secretariat. Our strategy is shaped by regional networks in Latin America, Africa and Asia and our mandate comes from the Governing Council.

Governance structure

sketch of Governing Council

Governing Council: three selected representatives from each FAN consortium member in Latin America, South Asia and Africa and a representative from the INGO members, BothEnds and WaterAid, make up the FAN Governing Council.

Consortium Members: work together to support the aims and objectives of FAN and provide organizational support to its activities. Consortium Members are made up of continental or regional networks, with a geographical spread across Latin America, Africa and Asia and two international NGOs.

Observer Members: emerging national or regional networks seeking to meet the criteria to become Consortium Members. They are able to attend meetings, make comments and provide input but will not have a decision-making role.

Subscriber Members: are water and/or sanitation networks, NGOs focused on water and/or sanitation, international NGOs, advocacy/interest groups and community based organizations.  They benefit from information shared and developed by FAN as well as provide information for sharing and dissemination themselves. Ordinary Members who are also members of a Consortium Member (eg ANEW), will work through the Regional Consortium Member for decision-making.

Solidarity Members: are individuals, organizations or interest groups involved in sustainable water management and water supply and sanitation that do not fall within the definition of ordinary members, but who support the aims and objectives of FAN.

Secretariat: provides project and administrative, financial and legal services to FAN.
