Water and Food Organization -- Humanitarian Water and Food Award 2012
The Humanitarian Water and Food Award highlights and rewards effective solutions to conserve water and grow food sustainably. The competition invites organizations, groups, and individuals worldwide to submit project ideas in these themes that are innovative, sustainable, locally managed, replicable, and that have wide impact. Award winners receives a trophy; a sum of €30 thousand to €60 thousand; and technical assistance to support their projects. All applicants who meet the basic criteria of the competition are registered in a database, and are able to submit requests for assistance from WFO's network. The closing date for applications is 15 January 2012.
NEW ***Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans -- Training and Education 2012
The Partnership for Observation of the Global Oceans (POGO) -- with funding through the Nippon Foundation -- supports capacity building in oceanography for individuals and institutions in developing countries. (i) The Bermuda Institute for Ocean Sciences (BIOS) sponsors an annual intensive training course for young professionals in oceanography at the doctoral level. (ii) POGO's Visiting Fellowship Program funds young professionals from developing countries to train in their speciality at a major oceanographic institution. (iii) PGO's Visiting Professorship Program supports marine scientists of international standing to teach and build capacity at marine institutions in the developing world. The application deadlines are 20 November 2011 for the BIOS training; and 15 January 2012 for the fellowships and professorship.
Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water -- Awards 2012 The PSIPW awards five bi-annual prizes in water research to individuals,
research teams, and organizations worldwide. The 5th award cycle (2012) offers the Creativity Prize with a value of US$266 thousand, along with four specialized prices of US$133 thousand each (surface water; groundwater; alternative water resources; and water management and protection). The Creativity Prize is by nomination, while the specialized prizes are by self-nomination. The closing date is 31 January 2012.
Leverhulme - Royal Society Africa Awards 2012
The Leverhulme Trust and the UK's Royal Society collaborate to make grants for research i agriculture, water and sanitation, biodiversity, energy, and basic huma health in Tanzania and Ghana. Applicants from these countries partner with institutions in the U.K. Project leaders must have at least post-doctoral status or equivalent. Awards offer a maximum of £60 thousand per year for three years. The closing date for applications is 08 February 2012.
Australia's International Center for Excellence in Water Resources Management (ICE WaRM) offers funding to attract high-quality international students for >education and training in water resources management in Australia. ICE WaRM offers a variety of program options in partnership with four Australian universities. Applications for scholarship support can be submitted twice a year, with the next deadline on 24 February 2012.
International Riverfoundation -- Thiess Riverprizes 2012
The Thiess International and Australian Riverprizes are awarded to outstanding projects in river management. The Prize has a cash component plus a twinning component. Nominations are accepted from Australia and around the world for programs and projects in river restoration, management of river water quality, pollution control, and related issues. The closing date for initial applications is 16 March 2012.
