Gestion des eaux transfrontières

FANCA’s capacity building program on water management has now completed its first two stages. The network trained communities and produced a video on integrated water r esource management (IWRM). FANCA is now looking for support to develop the capacity of transboundary ma nagement committees on IWRM.

141 communities have now been trained to implement integrated water management in the r egion, bringing the total number of communities to 502. The network has also completed an inventory of local water management committees across the three transboundary basins of Central America.

Trans-boundary water committees are key to coordinated resource management. FANCA is
negotiating with other regional entities to carry out capacity building in the 107 bi-national water committees to improve their resource management skills as well as their coverage and access to safe water and sanitation.

The training looks at the pr ogram’s strategy and plan and how these can be applied at local and national levels. They also spend time sharing experiences of water management at community level and learning about best practice on a range of topics – from
exchanging knowledge on technologies and the ways to deal with extreme weather such as hurricanes, to sharing their experiences of dif ferent legal and financial tools.
