FAN supported and facilitated the participation of a diverse group of over 25 members of civil society from three continents at the 4th World Water Forum in Mexico in March 2006. FAN had a stand at the Water Fair showing a series of documentaries produced by FAN members each day.

UN Commission on Sustainable Development Session 13 (CSD-13), April 2005 CSD is the UN department responsible for following up commitments made at the 1992 Rio de Janeiro Earth Summit and at the 2002 World Summit on Sustainable Development. This session focused on water, sanitation and human settlement. FAN attended together with representatives from FANCA and ANEW.

Red Centroamericana De Accin Del Agua FAN-Centro Amrica
was formed in February 2003 by a group of civil society organisations from the region. They had their official launch in November 2003 at the CCAD ExpoAmbiente in Panama.

ANEW - African Network of Civil Society Organisations on Water was established in October 2003 at a meeting organised by Freshwater Action Network, hosted by ELCI in Nairobi and attended by 40 representatives of African NGOs from all over the continent. ANEW had its official launch at AMCOW Pan-African Implementation and Partnership Conference on Water, Addis Ababa, in December 2003.

FAN attended the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) held in Johannesburg 2002. FAN coordinated a large exhibition space and meeting room, called the Thirst World, where 40 NGOs from all over the world came to exhibit, meet and participate in the WaterDome workshops.

FAN attended the Third World Water Forum in Kyoto, March 2003. FAN's main activities included sponsoring 28 NGOs from Africa, Asia, Central America and Eastern Europe, holding an NGO pre-forum preparatory meeting and coordinating the writing of an NGO Panel Statement that was presented at the Ministerial Conference.
