ANEW member wins 3rd Kyoto World Water Grand Prize
ANEW member Katosi Women Development Trust (KWDT) received the 3rd Kyoto World Water Grand Prize at the closing ceremony of the 6th world water forum in Marseille France on 17th March 2012. This is the second time a FAN member has won the Kyoto Water prize in just the three years since the prize was launched.

We bid farewell to Professor Kairu who joined ANEW as Chair in 2005. Under his leadership, ANEW developed a formal relationship with AMCOW, the African Ministers' Council on Water, and was officially registered as a trust. He oversaw ANEW's three-year EU program. In Uganda, where government has wholeheartedly embraced globalization as the way forward for development, water utilities are completely privatized. Unfortunately this has worsened corruption, degradation of ecosystems, excessive and careless consumption and wastage of water, contamination and salination of water bearings, aquifers and dams.

Save Uganda's Mabira forest from early desertification
The government of Uganda wants one third of Mabira Rain Forest converted into grassland of sugar cane, an advance stage in desertification. This means government of Uganda has chosen to help Sahara Desert take over the East African region sooner than later.
