ANEW Governance

Key Decisions reached at the General Assembly


In September 2007, 30 ANEW members from the five regions met to review progress, elect new leadership, plan and strategize for the implementation of the EUWF contract and to develop advocacy plans for the next two years.
  1. Constitutional Review: The General Assembly approved the revised version of the constitution with some minor changes. The secretariat will work with a lawyer to edit and finalize the constitution.
  2. Elections of board members: 11 members were elected to the ANEW board of Trustees. ANEW BOARD Members
  3. Regional Secretariat: Maji na Ufanisi will continue to host the Regional Secretariat in Nairobi
  4. ANEW Sub regions: ANEW membership will be divided into 5 sub regions in alignment with AMCOW sub regions:

Central Africa: Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Chad, Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Congo Brazzaville

Eastern Africa: Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia, Seychelles

Northern Africa: Mauritania, Morocco, West Sahara, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt.

Southern Africa : South Africa, Madagascar, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Malawi, Mauritius, Comoros.

Western Africa: Niger, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Burkina Faso, Cote d’Ivoire, Liberia, Gambia, Mali, Guinea Conakry, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde Island, Senegal, Nigeria, Sierra Leone.
