UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) High Level Summit
September 2008
Attended by heads of state, the meeting aims to set out what progress has been made where on MDGs, identify key policy and capacity constraints and establish where investments are needed. A side meeting on water and sanitation will be convened by the Dutch, Japanese and Tajikistan.
The central objectives of the year are to put a global spotlight on current poor conditions of hygiene; to highlight the inadequate progress made to date on the sanitation target of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Goal Seven includes a target to halve by 2015 the proportion of people lacking adequate sanitation) and to advocate for the multiple benefits that stem from better sanitation and hygiene.
