International meetings

FAN has been instrumental in supporting and assisting southern CSOs to participate in many international meetings including World Water Forums and the CSD -Commission on Sustainable Development

World Bank - Civil Society dialogues

FAN conducted a scoping study with the World Bank to explore the potential for feasible dialogue activities between civil society organizations and the World Bank

EU Water Initiative 

The EU Water Initiative aims to improve coordination of EC and EU member states' development expenditure on water and sanitation, focusing on water resource management as well as service delivery.

Right to Water 

FAN works towards the progressive realisation of the human right to water and sanitation. We are currently working towards developing our knowledge on the use of the right to water and sanitation at the community level.

UN Millennium Development Goals (MDG) High Level Summit
September 2008

Attended by heads of state, the meeting aims to set out what progress has been made where on MDGs, identify key policy and capacity constraints and establish where investments are needed.  A side meeting on water and sanitation will be convened by the Dutch, Japanese and Tajikistan.                                                                                              


UN launches International Year of Sanitation 2008 

The central objectives of the year are to put a global spotlight on current poor conditions of hygiene; to highlight the inadequate progress made to date on the sanitation target of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) (Goal Seven includes a target to halve by 2015 the proportion of people lacking adequate sanitation) and to advocate for the multiple benefits that stem from better sanitation and hygiene.
