ANEW - African Civil Society Network on Water and Sanitation

About ANEW

ANEW is a regional networking body of African civil society organizations (CSOs) actively involved in the field of sustainable water management, water supply and sanitation.

ANEW is committed to the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) on water and sanitation and the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) targets on water.

Vision
An Africa where water is respected and protected by all as an essential resource for all forms of life and where universal access to water and sanitation is achieved responsibly, equitably and inclusively.

Mission
ANEW works to improve water governance by strengthening the role of civil society in decision making, linking the environmental and developmental agendas, for the realization of the right to water and sanitation for present and future generations.

To achieve the mission, ANEW works to

  • advocate for effective engagement in order to influence water sector policies and practices
  • Provide a platform for learning, sharing, networking and coalition building around best practices and key issues in the water and sanitation sector.
  • advance dialogues between CSOs and governments
  • Provide a platform for collective voices and actions on issues of concern to CSOs and the people they serve.

A network that belongs to its members, ANEW relies on the participation of its members in all activities.

ANEW is registered as a trust under Kenyan law.
