Staffing news – farewell and welcome
The secretariat wished Joe Gomme – interim Executive Secretary – farewell in April and welcomed Danielle Morley back to the role following her maternity leave. Also, Isabella, who has been on temporary secondment with FAN, has had her contract extended until the end of August to focus on the revamp of the FAN website. May 2010
6th World Water Forum kick off meeting (external link)
FAN members from across the network have been invited to attend the kick off meeting for the 6th World Water Forum. This is the first time that civil society have been involved at such an early stage of the process and will allow members to influence the agenda and objectives of the largest water related event in the world. Governance and Transparency Fund 'Big Meeting'
The Governance and Transparency Fund (GTF) is gearing up for its second 'Big Meeting' to be held in Mombasa, Kenya 18-21 May. Hosted by ANEW, this meeting will reflect on the strategic implementation of the overall GTF programme, strengthen partnerships and capturing learning for leveraged impact the local, regional and global levels. National dialogues on the right to water and sanitation

ANEW is organizing a series of national dialogues on the right to water and sanitation to contribute to the achievement of MDG targets on water and sanitation in Africa. Record-breaking success on World Water Day
World Water day, on 22 March 2010, saw mass mobilisation and record breaking event the World's Longest Toilet Queue take place in over 70 countries all over the world. Many FAN members took part to demand real change on the sanitation crisis. March 2010
A new direction – Governing Council refocuses FAN Secretariat
The FAN Governing Council meeting in January saw council members members gather for an intensive session where lots of plans were made for the future and a new focus for the secretariat of strengthening regional networks was approved. March 2010
Phased independence for FAN
FAN’s draft strategy, which was amended and updated at the Governing Council meeting, includes a new section on FAN’s future structure following the council’s proposal that FAN go through a phased transition to become a legally independent organisation. March 2010
A revived and strengthened global communications team
FAN's second global communications workshop, which took place at the end of January in Costa Rica, was a rich and productive three days and a valuable chance for FAN's communications officers to get to know each other and share their experiences. March 2010

Meeting with UK Government on right to water
