A year-long consultation process led by the FAN members in South Asia (Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan) has led to the formation of FAN South Asia, built upon the country chapters. About 200 key actors from the Water and Sanitation sector, mostly small and medium civil society organisations, expressed a strong need to initiate a South Asia level WATSAN Network as an affiliation of FAN International in the regional culmination meeting in January 2008 in Kathmandu, Nepal.
FANSA aims to strengthen the engagement of CSOs in policy-making and development initiatives to achieve the international targets on water and sanitation, improve regional co-operation between CSOs of differing perspectives, priorities and skills and increase the number of NGOs to advocate and communicate clearly on water policy issues and the broader agenda.
