A Citizen Water Front is born in Honduras

Launched on World Water Day, the Citizen Water Front movement is an initiative which brings together various social organizations, communities, private enterprises, national government agencies and the municipality and whose purpose is to find more effective solutions for water supply problems of Tegucigalpa.

The front will be led by the Mayor and composed of different actors. They are committed to promoting measures ensuring sustainability within development strategies, whether at the metropolitan, regional, local, national or international level.

Municipal Mayor Ricardo Alvarez is considering whether the municipalization water should be handled by the Citizens Front, and reported that he is not going to privatize the service but will find an operator to ensure access and proper use of resources.

During World Water Day community leaders and representatives of water boards showed the capital's problems, which are related to the lack and cost of services. In some cases, families in poor neighborhoods pay up to 500 Mil Lempiras per month ($78) while others only pay 65 lempiras.
