FANCA Nicaragua monitoring Water Boards Bill

FANCA has been monitoring the approval of a law that will recognize water boards in Nicaragua as legal entities. This is of great importance to the country, particularly for the rural sector in Nicaragua, and will help the improve and increase sustainability of water services.

The process will conclude on 25 November when the Commission of the Environment and Natural resources will present a consultation on the draft law with the support of INAA regulator, ENACAL and some delegates from around the country.

Once approved, this law will allow water boards, which now operate as community organisations, to apply for funding from national and international agencies for maintenance or expansion of potable water systems and sanitation. This law will also allow the improvement and sustainability of water services and will be supported with technical level training programs for ENACAL in each of the territories.

Currently the committee of environment and natural resources is submiting a dictum of the special law for approval. This monitoring process by deputies of the National Assembly is called the motions, of which there have been five in total.
