Our Membership Policy

  • Any registered Civil Society Organization working in Africa and involved in sustainable water resources management, water supply and/or sanitation
  • Over 150 members in 39 out of the 53 countries in Africa
  • ANEW members range from local NGOs to National and regional network

The countries that remain without ANEW presence are Mauritania, Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Seychelles, Mauritius, Equatorial Guinea, Sao Tome, Cape Verde, Ivory Coast, Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Liberia. However, ANEW in trying to establish its presence in most of these countries. In Burundi for instance, the Minister for Water is currently assisting ANEW to identify suitable members.

Membership Categories

Full Members 

A registered civil society organization:

  • National water and/or  sanitation networks
  • Sub regional water and sanitation networks
  • National non governmental organizations focused in water and/or sanitation
  • International non-governmental organizations
  • Advocacy/Interest groups
  • Community-based organizations

Associate Members

 Organizations or interest groups that do not fall within the definition of civil society

  • Research institutions
  • Higher education institutions
  • Advocacy/Interest groups not involved in the water sector
  • Consumer associations
  • Trade/labour unions
  • Human Rights organizations

These members may be invited to participate in ANEW activities and/or attend meetings but do not enjoy the rights and privileges of full members.
