Freshwater Action Network
– grassroots influencing on water and sanitation

Key partnerships

File 1615Freshwater Action Network was initially conceived by WaterAid in 2001. For over ten years, WaterAid supported the growth of the organisation, providing invaluable organizational and financial support to FAN including hosting the global secretariat in their offices in London. In August 2012, FAN Global became independent with the global secretariat remaining hosted in the WaterAid offices. We remain close partners in the sector.

End Water Poverty

End Water Poverty (EWP) is the international campaign to end the global injustice that causes millions to live without access to clean water and sanitation. Many FAN members have supported EWP campaigning events including the record-breaking event, The World's Longest Toilet Queue and the hugely successful World Walks for Water.

Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council

The Water Supply and Sanitation Collaborative Council (WSSCC) is a global multi-stakeholder partnership organisation that works to improve the lives of poor people.  FAN has collaborated with WSSCC on a number of events and campaigns including the civil society input at the South Asian Conference on Sanitation and AfricanSan as well as EWP campaigns. In October 2010, WSSCC supported a number of FANSA and ANEW members to attend and enegage in their Global Forum on Sanitation and Hygiene

Water and Climate Change Coalition

The Water and Climate Change Coalition, previously known as GPPN, was launched at Stockholm Water Week 2007 and was established to enable a space for stakeholders to prepare for the review of water and sanitation at the 2008 session of the UN CSD-16 and to catalyze the successful realization of the review’s outcomes. FAN and WCC have a strong collaboration lobbying the UNFCCC process.

WASH United

WASH United has been campaigning since 2010 for the basic human right to clean drinking water and sanitation and for greater hygiene awareness among children and young people in Africa. WASH United is a unique coalition of international and African civil society organisations, United Nations agencies, governments and leading actors from the world of football. WASH United harnesses the power of sport to promote safe drinking Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) for all people, everywhere. In 2012, we collaborated with WASH United and WaterLex on a valuable human rights advocacy resource, The human right to safe drinking water and sanitation in law and policy - a sourcebook detailing laws and policies guaranteeing the human right to safe drinking water and sanitation at national, regional and international levels.

WaterLex was launched in 2010, as a collective effort of water and human rights specialists to initiate a multi-stakholder dialogue to secure a sustainable access to safe drinking water for all, using a human rights based approach. A unique center of expertise connected to the world. WaterLex enshrines its expertise in the experience and skills of its specialists, committed for decades to improving water access, equitable development, respect for human rights or emergency relief. On the jointly produced resource The human right to safe drinking water and sanitation in law and policy - a sourcebook, WaterLex contributed some the complementary searchable online database
